Visiting The Leadership Center
Please follow the steps below to assure a safe and enjoyable stay at TLC. See you soon!
Mutually Transformative Experience
We’re so excited that you are visiting Leadership Mission International’s (LMI) Honduras campus, The Leadership Center (TLC). TLC is a very special place that is filled with very special people. Although life at TLC is very different from the U.S., we know you’ll come to love it as much as we do!
Visiting our students in Honduras offers an opportunity for meaningful cultural exchange, and we ask all participants to approach these experiences with respect, openness, and cultural sensitivity. Our students bring rich traditions, values, and perspectives that enhance each visitor’s understanding of Honduran life, and we encourage our guests to listen, learn, and engage thoughtfully. These trips are designed to be mutually transformative, empowering both visitors and students to broaden their worldviews, share knowledge, and foster lasting connections. By embracing cultural humility, visitors help create an environment where all can grow, learn, and be inspired together.
To enhance the trip experience, LMI has developed pre-trip training sessions to help you prepare logistically and to help you learn about Honduran culture. Through these sessions, you will discuss articles, develop your itinerary, and learn about Honduran culture. We request that all team members invest in these sessions to get the best experience possible. Once you’ve signed up for a team, your team lead will communicate the timeline of your pre-trip zoom trainings.
If you are a team leader, check out the team lead guide here.
Registration & Logistics
Step 1
Leadership Mission International requires all volunteers, teachers, and visitors to have a basic international health insurance policy. Insurance is available at a reasonable cost from many organizations including “Go Mission”: https://www.gomissiontrip.com/
Other possible options for teachers committing to one year or longer are Atlas Travel Insurance (https://www.hccmis.com/atlas-travel-insurance/) or Global Travel Insurance (https://www.imglobal.com/international-health-insurance/global-medical-insurance).
Please purchase this policy and be prepared to input this information during registration. If you need an exemption from this, please email hannah@leadershipmission.org.
Step 2
LMI also recommends volunteers register in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP), a service offered by the US State Department: https://step.state.gov/step/
When you register, there will be a question “Where can the US Embassy reach you?” Please put your emergency contact number or your phone number. The address is Comayagua, Comayagua
Step 3
While in Honduras, we will serve you 3 nutritious meals a day, provide transportation to and from the airport, and provide housing. To help with this cost, we ask that you make a donation to the organization of $700 per person. Please note that we offer scholarships for anyone who may have difficulty paying this fee so please reach out to hannah@leadershipmission.org if needed.
*Long term staff members do not need to complete this step.
Step 4
LMI would like to make your visit to TLC a great experience! To help us with this effort, we ask that you Register for your visit. During registration, you will be asked for information from your passport, flight itinerary, and your purchased international health insurance policy.
