March for Women

March for Women

Across Honduras, countless women are rising above adversity to become prominent thinkers, ethical leaders, and impactful marchers. Join us this spring for the LMI March for Women, a month-long event celebrating the women who are taking strides to transform Honduras and the world. Coinciding with Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day, this initiative is a chance to learn more about the groundbreaking contributions of women and how we can continue to #StrideForChange.

March for Women

Imagine a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination.
A world that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive.

#BreakTheBias

“If you educate a man you simply educate an individual, but if you educate a woman, you educate a whole nation.”

Median Per Capita Household Incomes in Rural Honduras

Poverty Line:

$67/month

Less than 25% of adults in family working:

$44/month

More than 50% of adults in family working:

$105/month

LMI is geared towards equipping women for business and taking ownership of their futures. We strive to create an environment that allows women to join the workforce if they desire. When less than a quarter of working-age members in rural Honduran households have paid work, the monthly household per capita earnings are about $44, well below the poverty line of $67 a month. When 50% of the working-age members are employed, their income increases greatly, to $105 a month.

Did you know?

Women in Honduras do not have job opportunities that will allow them to break cycles of poverty, because of a lack of access to education and skill-based training.

In order to reduce poverty rates in rural Honduras, it is crucial to create an environment where working-age people can get a paying job. Our mission at LMI is to equip women with skills that allow them to have options for their future – so they can provide themselves and their families with education, healthcare, and basic other needs.

A World Bank study found that every year of secondary school education is correlated with an 18% increase in a girl’s future earning power.

Join us in our March for Women Campaign by donating:

$18 for each of our 14 second year students and soon to be graduates, or $252 total

as you hear what our current students dream of and what our alumni have accomplished.

Through this campaign, your gifts will be able to offer financial support to business start-ups, community development projects, and skills development on campus.

March for Women Calendar

Every weekday for the month of March, LMI will be releasing video, audio, or written content on this webpage in honor of Women’s History Month. In the spirit of activating passion, we invite you to listen or reflect on these LMI student or graduate stories on your weekly run, walk, yoga session or meditation time, whatever it may be. We are convinced that you will be inspired to push even further for the things that inspire you as our students have – to realize a gender equal word.

Give a man a fish and he eats for a day.
Teach a man to fish and he eats for a lifetime.
But teach a woman to fish, and everyone eats for a lifetime.
