This fall, starting on Monday, September 13th at 5pm PST/8pm EST and continuing bi-monthly, we invite our LMI friends and family to the “Strong Voices Series” zoom calls inspired by the text Don’t Be Afraid, Gringo (buy here). The autobiography is written by Elvia Alvarado, a campesina woman who advocated for the rights of women from rural areas. She co-hosted a women’s conference with our student director here at LMI, Karla Mendoza, and her legacy and resilience as a campesina continues to impact the world today.

Our journey through the text will include the voices of students and graduates of TLC. We will dive into 6 different topics each week such as “Current Honduran Politics & International Relations,” “Family Structures & Gender Roles,” “Rural Economics & Entrepreneurship,” and other relevant issues that will ground us together in the culture and context of Honduras. Attendance at all meetings is not a requirement, but will create a fuller understanding of our Honduran neighbors’ lives.
