Two Lives, One Journey: Fanny and Lynne’s Lifelong Friendship

Lynne and a young Fanny during one of her early visits to Honduras.

On a mission trip to Honduras, Lynne met nine-year-old Fanny at Montaña de Luz, a nonprofit that serves families impacted by HIV. Fanny’s energy caught Lynne’s eye right away; she called her “a spitfire little girl with a huge heart.” That first encounter sparked a friendship that would shape both of their futures.

After returning home, Lynne chose to sponsor Fanny through Montaña de Luz. She kept coming back to Honduras, checking in on Fanny’s progress, and eventually joined the organization’s board so she could support even more children.

When Fanny graduated high school, MdL recommended her as a student to Leadership Mission International. Lynne decided to sponsor Fanny through LMI and support her as she grows into a passionate young adult.

Why Sponsorship Matters

After going through LMI’s program, Fanny is equipped to be a leader in her community. This July, Fanny is interning with the Municipality of Villa de San Antonio. She’s gaining hands-on experience in local government and project management—skills she plans to bring into the classroom when she starts her career as a teacher. Her dream is to pour back into the next generation just as others have poured into her.

Lynne’s support wasn’t limited to tuition payments. It was presence, mentorship, and the consistent message that Fanny’s life has purpose. Their story reminds us that sponsorship lasts far beyond two years; it can shape a lifetime.

Join the Story

Fanny is just one of thousands of incredible young Honduran women with the drive to learn, lead, and live with purpose. Through sponsorship, they gain access to higher education, personal growth, and the chance to create lasting change in their communities.

Your belief in them can make all the difference.
