“Ironically, English was one of the subjects in which I had many issues. Here, I am speaking and writing in English.”
I am Mirian Aguilar, a 2nd year student at TLC. I am 22 years old, from San Jose, La Paz. I like to read, to bake and to spend time alone. I am close to graduating from TLC, and to be in the place where I am now, it has been a long process. Let me share why. When I was 11 years old, I was finishing my sixth grade of school and I was not ready to start seventh grade. Even though I had a lot of support from my family and specifically from my parents, I struggled with self-confidence. I did not believe in my capacity to continue studying. At age 11, the mentality of not being smart enough to study crushed my dreams of becoming a professional.
I was a teenager trying to fit in this huge world, but I had many mindsets that were stopping me. I was trying to find a place that I already had. Now, I am able to realize that I was wrong. I do not need to fit in or to try to find my place in this world because God gave me a place in this world since I was in my mother’s womb. The only thing that I need to do is to put everything in His hands and to believe in myself. But, when I was 11, I did not know all of these things. It took me 6 months to build enough self-confidence to continue studying.

To continue studying has been the best decision I have ever made, but it has not been easy. I had many challenges with subjects, relationships and family. Ironically, English was one of the subjects in which I had many issues. Here, I am speaking and writing in English. Making friends was and still is a big challenge for me, but TLC is an amazing place where I have been improving a lot in this area. My family is one of the main reasons I work so hard every day. My parents motivate me to be proud of myself. If I am proud of myself, they are proud of me too.
